I was working at Century 21 a block away from Zuccotti Park . I went outside on my lunch break
to go get some food, and I saw this tiny little march going around. I was like,
“What is this?” I started following them and filming them. One of the guys
said, “Follow us! We need you!” So I followed them. I came back from my lunch
break late because of them. After that, I was like, “Man, I really gotta see
what’s up with these guys.” I hadn’t heard about them for a while. Then, all of
the sudden, I started seeing these people sleeping in the park as I was going
to work. I walked into the park, talked to some of
the people. They told me they were occupying. I was like, “That’s odd. Why are
they doing that.” I just went about my day, but I kept thinking about it more
and more when I was sitting at home. I realized that I really had to go out
there and do it. I packed my bag for one weekend. I figured I was going to stay
out there for a couple nights, and I ended up staying in the park for two
months. I didn’t leave until the eviction. It was really awesome. It was a
really great experience.
For me personally, I think it’s important because we’ve been
doing this for such a long time. Capitalism has been going on for such a long
time. The corporate greed of Wall Street and these big banks have been going on
for such a long time. It needs to come to an end. In my opinion, there are a
lot of things wrong with the world. I mean, who can’t see that? We don’t need a
change in government. We need a change in humanity. Until people change, we
can’t fix the problems that people create. Unfortunately, the world I want to
see, I don’t think I’ll live to see it by doing this, but I will gladly pave
the way for future generations of kids to help them to escape from this
bullshit system.
The world I want to see is a world where people realize that
we no longer need to use violence and can coexist peacefully together. That’s
pretty much the perfect world for me, people getting along and sharing
resources for the common good. Why should I have two when you have none? If I
only had one, I’d still give you a piece of it. Sharing is the best thing that
we could possibly do, and helping each other out. The hoarding of money by these
corporations is wrong. We could end world hunger if they didn’t hoard all of
this money. Money creates hoarding. If we were bartering or using gift economy,
eventually I’m going get to the point where I have enough t-shirts.
With money, I’m going to hoard and hoard and hoard because I can have an
unlimited amount of this. I feel that’s what we need to get away from. A whole
change in humanity is what I really want to see.
